Sarah Jones MP Standing Up For Croydon
Add your name to call on Croydon Council to act on fly-tipping now.
Fly-tipping has been one of the issues that has come up most in my discussions with constituents on the doorstep and in meetings. Fly-tipping is the dumping of waste illegally in our streets and on our green spaces.
Efforts by the Croydon Council to tackle the problem haven’t gone nearly far enough – enforcement remains weak, the strategy is unclear, and leadership is absent.
Croydon Council should take immediate action to address this problem by implementing these three key measures:
-
Mega Skip Days – Provide free skip access on designated days so residents can dispose of unwanted items responsibly.
-
Fly-Tipper’s Wall of Shame – Use mobile CCTV to catch offenders and display their images in hotspot areas, backed by strict fines and penalties.
-
A Borough-Wide Strategy – Develop a proper fly-tipping strategy that works with local people, uses existing powers effectively, and delivers real change.
The Labour government has already announced tough action to tackle fly-tipping and clean up our streets:
-
Vans and cars used for fly-tipping will be seized — and crushed.
-
New technology such as drones and mobile CCTV will used to identify fly-tip vehicles
-
Waste cowboys face up to five years in prison under new legislation
Meanwhile, the council still isn’t doing enough.
Let’s keep the pressure on locally. Sign the petition to demand Croydon Council takes real action to clean up our streets.
